"The Outreach Ministry of Edmonds United Methodist Church (EUMC) will present its annual Poverty Conference – An End to Poverty: Effective Solutions Globally and Locally – on Nov. 21-22, 2008."Dates:
"The Conference will feature keynote presentations by Dennis Smith, Executive Vice President of the United Way of Snohomish County; and Phil Borges, renowned photojournalist, who will also conduct a book signing of his work “Women Empowered.” Borges has hosted several documentaries for Discovery and National Geographic as part of a series that investigates indigenous cultures that still maintain a spiritual dialogue with the natural world.
Other topics of discussion will include another Borges project called “Bridges to Understanding;” the development of an Emergency Cold Weather Homeless Shelter in Lynnwood; and Micro-lending, featuring a video by Nobel Peace laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and a discussion/tutorial on Kiva.org.
Supplementing these presentations will be an exhibition of 15 area organizations that support those in poverty. Additionally, 10,000 Villages, one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, will have a shop featuring handmade crafts from around the world.
